What is Facing Film?
Facing Film is a blog written by Daniel Hollister.
In 2005, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue filmmaking. In the time since then, I have been fortunate enough to work on various short and feature films, music videos, and television products for companies such as MGM, Fox, and the CW. Although having worked in various capacities, this blog will focus mostly on working on the production crew, where I have been a PA, 1st AC, 1st AD, and camera operator.
I do not claim to be any sort of expert about the film industry, nor have I “made it,” become a household name, or purchased a Ferrari. I’m just a guy who has been able to work crew on some film projects.
But in my time here so far, I have learned many lessons that I wish I had known prior to moving here that might help other people interested in working in Hollywood get their first jobs. It is these stories that I will chronicle on this blog. I hope you may find them useful, informative, or just plain interesting.
